Greetings!
Carl
Zichella will be speaking on Thursday, Oct 14th on the
Progress, Opportunities and Obstacles to the Climate
Challenge for the World’s Largest Economy. Carl is in a
unique position to view these issues as the recent Sierra Club
director for western U.S. renewable projects and a leader at
the Sierra Club for 23 years. Added to this unique leadership
role, he was a founding steering committee member of the CA
Apollo Alliance, a director of the Center for Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Technology (CEERT), and the founding
director of the American Wilderness Coalition. In addition, he
was the environmental representative for the: - Renewable
Energy Transmission Initiative (RETI), - Western
Governor’s Association Renewable Energy Zone identification
process, and - Western Electricity Coordinating Council’s
Transmission Expansion Planning Policy Committee.
Currently,
Carl is the director for Western Transmission for the Natural
Resources Defense Council (NRDC). As such, he is the
organization’s lead staff for renewable energy transmission
siting and serves on a nationwide team working on renewable
energy development issues. In this role he works with
stakeholders from environmental organizations, renewable
energy development and transmission industries, local, state
and national governments, regulatory agencies and the public
to find renewable energy transmission solutions that
accelerate renewable energy development while respecting
wildlife and land conservation efforts.
Carl’s
efforts to find solutions to siting renewables projects give
him unique insight into the role that a wide range of
renewable technologies can play in America’s movement toward
a sustainable society.
His
presentation is sponsored jointly by the CA Center for
Sustainable Energy (CCSE) and the San Diego Renewable Energy
Society (SDRES) and will be held at CCSE’s headquarters at
8690 Balboa Avenue, Suite 100 (2 lights east of Hwy 163 on the
north side of Balboa). The program starts at 6:30 pm with
networking among attendees and light snacks and drinks. Carl’s
seminar starts at 7 pm followed by a Q&A session. See
www.sdres.org or www.energycenter.org for details.
