Why has only
one 50 MW wind farm been built in the San Diego area while there
is a large wind technical potential of at least 1700 MW?
Scott
Debenham, a top wind expert in the region, will
discuss his experiences attempting to find sites for
wind farms. He has done much to characterize the large wind
resources in the mountains of southeastern San Diego County, and will
identify up to 20 potential wind farm sites. Scott will also
discuss storage options such as pumped hydro and compressed air
storage. Finally, he'll challenge the local Sierra
Club to keep its commitment three years ago to proactively
identify preferred wind farm areas and work with wind developers.
Scott not only consults in wind farm development, he also
facilitates solar thermal electric plant siting.
Scott Debenham, will be our featured speaker for the program on Wednesday, July 9, 7- 9pm at the California Center for Sustainable Energy, 8690 Balboa Avenue, #100.
