Tonight ( September 10, 2008) we will be presenting our first seminar on THE most important topic of prime interest to the San Diego Renewable Energy Society --- Energy Efficiency in San Diego.  Skip Fralick will lead the presentation with several other contributing authors and identify the types of energy efficiency technology, the potential of these options, and will project the amount of energy that should be saved by 2020.  This work is part of an SDRES sponsored study of the energy situation in San Diego projected to 2020, and will cover all the renewable energy technologies as well as the potential for energy efficiency.

Based on the national comprehensive national study ("Tackling Climate Change" by ASES), energy efficiency played the important role of flattening the growth of energy between now and 2050.  Even though the national economy continued to grow energy services at a "business-as-usual" projection, energy efficiency in transportation, buildings (residential and commercial) and industry was able to keep the total amount of energy at basically today's level.  Then the six renewable technologies (PV, Concentrating Solar Power, Wind, Geothermal, Biomass, and Bio-fuels) were able to reduce carbon emissions to about 80% less than today.  Without the key role of energy efficiency, the carbon emission could not have been reduced to this needed level to avoid the most onerous aspects of climate change.

Let's all gather tonight and hear Skip et al, present the first installment in the San Diego energy efficiency story.

See you tonight at 7 PM at the California Center for Sustainable Energy at 8690 Balboa, Suite 100.  Turn left at the 2nd light east of Rt 167.
